The nearly impossible task of replacing Goodspeed Musicals Executive Director, Michael Price after nearly fifty years at the helm been completed. The new guy heading the East Haddam venue will be 64-year old Michael Gennaro.

Gennaro is moving to Connecticut after having served as Executive Director of the Trinity Repertory Theatre in Providence, Rhode Island, so the move will be just a straight shot down I-95. The 76 year old Price put the theater on the map, garnering two Tonys. Price put the musical “Annie” on the stage at Goodspeed and it went to Broadway. Coincidentally it turns out that Gennaro’s Dad, Peter, a choreographer staged the dances in “Annie” when it premiered at the Goodspeed in 1976.

Michael Gennaro, executive director of Trinity Repertory Theatre in Providence, R.I., is the new executive director of Goodspeed Musicals — its first new leader in nearly half a century.

Gennaro, 64, succeeds Michael Price, 76, who has led the two-time Tony Award-winning institution for 46 years. The curtain goes up on Gennaro’s new job in February when he takes the reigns.

The Michael Price Endowment Fund has been set up to make sure that his “benevolent dictatorship” is never forgotten, by the way my daughter Lindsay was his assistant for one year and she had the ride of her life under Michael, she loves him dearly.
