May 3, 2014 celebrated one-thousand shows at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. “The Kate,”was just named the best small theater in Connecticut. On this evening there was a standing room only crowd to see Craig Fuller and Pure Prairie League. That band opened us nearly five years ago. There was cake and a champagne toast at intermission and a commemorative pin handed out with a big red “K” for one thousand. Having been on the founding board of trustees and continue to serve in that capacity, we’re all real proud of this “gem of a place with a movie star name.” We have the biggest base of volunteers of any theater in the state, that number is 150. With summer approaching the second season of “Kate’s Camp For Kids” will be in full swing. Nothing like the arts.
