The production runs April 7 – May 1, 2016 with performances scheduled Thursday through Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 2:00pm. Opening night for Gross Domestic Product is Friday, April 8 at 7:30pm. All performances include a talk-back with the artists.

tickets are $15; and as always, No One Turned Away for Lack of Funds (NOTALF). NOTALF tickets must
be purchased in person at the door on the day of the performance. Box office opens one hour prior to
showtime. Free parking is available in the Mark Twain House visitor parking lot. On street parking is
available on Woodland and Gillette Streets as well as Farmington Avenue.
Gross Domestic Product, a new musical written by HartBeat’s Artistic Director Julia Rosenblatt, looks at
motherhood as unpaid work. When a trailblazing senator holds a public forum to unveil her new economic
agenda for mothers in America, she is slapped with realities that are far more harsh than she could have
imagined. The story traverses the heartfelt as well as the outrageous, while examining what this ‘labor of
love’ is actually worth to our society.
Rosenblatt has collaborated with New Haven-based director Rachel Alderman (A Broken Umbrella
Theatre) and Los-Angeles based composer Martín Carrillo for the creation of GDP. Carrillo worked with
Rosenblatt on HartBeat’s award winning show Flipside. The five member cast will feature: Suzanne
Ankrum* (West Hartford, CT), Vanessa Butler (Hartford, CT), Rebecca Ellis (West Hartford, CT), Tauren
Hagans* (New York, NY), and Aaron Pitre* (West Hartford, CT). *Members of Actor’s Equity
“This groundbreaking play seeks to make visible the invisible.” says Alderman. “It asks the question: What
is the human cost to society, to mothers, to children, to families, when “invisible” work is not included in
the GDP?”

Founded in 2001 by Steven Raider-Ginsburg, Julia B. Rosenblatt and Gregory R. Tate (1952-2012),
HartBeat Ensemble creates provocative theater that connects our community beyond traditional barriers of
class, race, geography and gender. HartBeat’s resident home is the Carriage House Theater located on
Farmington Avenue in Hartford.
