Academy Award nominee, Actress Rosiland Russell was born in Waterbury, Connecticut on June 4, 1907. She was one of seven children born to James Edward and Clara A. (née McKnight) Russell. According to published reports, she was named after a ship on which her parents had traveled. She gained fame as a comedic actress in Hollywood and along the way would win five Golden Globes. I was introduced to her as a kid when I saw the movie Auntie Mame which was released in 1958, and she has been a favorite of mine ever since. My boutique in Madison, Connecticut is called “Annie Mame” in homage to this Connecticut gal. if you don’t know her work, Google her name, she was a lot of fun.
